Big Bear Village
The Big Bear Lake Central area is located on the south shore of Big Bear Lake and runs from the City Hall and Performing Arts Center, east to the village. There are boat marinas and lake front homes along the waterfront and commercial businesses along Highway 18.
Miss Liberty at Pine Knot Landing
Homes in this area include small cabins, average sized homes and condominiums on up to multi-million dollar properties, all within walking distance to the lake. Several lakefront lodges are located here and during the summer months the activity focus switches from the ski resorts to this somewhat “touristy” part of town.
Annual Boat Show east of the Village
One of the big draws to this area is the fact that everything is within walking distance. You can hike the local trails to the south and easily make your way north to the lake front in less than 20 minutes. Mill Creek Road (Forestry Road 2N10), one of the best access roads into the back country, originates from here and meanders through the San Bernardino National Forest and across the mountain ridge until it reaches the Moonridge area.
Cedar Lake, a man-made reservoir just south of the highway, has been used as a movie location and camping site since the turn of the last century. The Towne Trail begins near the top of Knickerbocker Road and is a popular mountain biking and hiking trail that connects to Snow Summit. Many of Big Bear’s original settlers called this part of Big Bear home and the area is rich with local history.
Within the neighborhood of Big Bear Lake Central is Ironwood Estates.
