Fox Farm Views
The Fox Farm area is a centrally located neighborhood of medium to large homes and lots. Named for the foxes that were once raised in this area, Fox Farm is convenient to shopping, skiing, and the lake. Home prices range from the mid $300,000’s to over $1,000,000. Fox Farm is popular with full time residents as well as second homeowners.
This area of Big Bear Lake was settled by R.T. Moore of Maine. He heard that Big Bear, in southern California, had an ideal climate for breeding the silver fox. The high altitude and changing seasons had few insects that bothered the fox. Moore bought 84 acres of land east of Pine Knot and established the Borestone Ranch. The original borders were rocky hills in the north, followed by Fox Farm, Teakwood and Crater Lake roads.
Early Fox Farming
The McAllister family is also locally famous for building the Fox Farm area of Big Bear Lake. They arrived in this mountain community in 1928, managing the All Star Fox Farm Ranch. At their height, the farm produced more than a thousand pelts a year. The fox farming industry came in second to cattle ranching in the 1930’s.
This nicely maintained neighborhood is known for its towering Jeffery Pines. Areas of Fox Farm support maple trees that change to vivid colors in the Fall. Scenic views range from natural rocks, trees and mountains to beautiful views of Big Bear Lake.
Fall Foliage
Fox Farm’s subdivisions are made up of Alpine Woods, Castle Glen, and Eagle Mountain. Adjacent shopping includes Kmart, Vons, Stater Brothers, and a CVS Pharmacy. The area also boasts a Day Spa (Elevations) and the Mountain Fitness Center.
The Fox Farm Neighborhood includes Alpine Woods, Castle Glen and Eagle Mountain.
