Labor Day Weekend

We are expecting a beautiful weekend in Big Bear, CA. The temperatures will be moderate and sunny, with a possibility of scattered afternoon thundershowers. How will you enjoy yourself?

There are several events in the Valley this weekend, beginning with Friday nights in the Village. Enjoy street vendors and live music on the street corners. There’s plenty of shopping and dining throughout the area, along with two movie theaters and a bowling alley.

On Saturday night the Big Bear Lake Discovery Center will play host to Jim Curry’s “Tribute to John Denver”. Jim Curry was featured in the CBS movie “Take Me Home”. Enjoy live music under the stars at the amphitheatre. This is the final concert of the Discovery Center’s summer concerts. The concerts benefit the Forest Service’s restoration and education programs. Tickets are $20. VIP parking is available at the gate on a first come basis for an additional $5.00.

There will be a Fall Festival at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. This family friendly venue is located on the south shore at Division and Big Bear Boulevard. Relax on the patio to live music. There’s great food and fine beer, and arts and crafts booths.

The Big Bear Historical Museum will dedicate an authentic Serrano Willow House on Saturday at 10:00 AM. The authentic campsite was built by the San Manuel Indians who brought the traditional materials to Big Bear. The museum is open until 4:00 PM. There are hundreds of artifacts and old buildings that accurately display the early mountain lifestyle. Kids will enjoy activities including panning for gold!

Snow Summit Sky Chair

If you enjoy the outdoors, there are plenty of activities to choose from.

  • In the east valley try the Sugarloaf Mountain trail. It’s off of Highway 38, across from Hatchery Road. Head in a couple of miles and you’ll see parking for the trail head.
  • Off-roading enthusiasts can head into the back country through Van Duesen Canyon Road on the north shore in Big Bear City.
  • Mountain bikers can access all of the trails behind Snow Summit by riding the Sky Chair.
  • Fishing has been great all year due to chilly mountain weather. If you plan to spend time on the lake this weekend, watch for the possibility of thunderstorms.

The pace of our mountain lifestyle allows us to enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Check out our neighborhood guide for details about each area in the Big Bear Valley.
