Local Big Bear Lifestyle

Big Bear Lake CA

Big Bear locals enjoy a unique lifestyle that few communities can offer.  With so many different activities to choose from, the biggest challenge of living up here is deciding what to do next.  Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast with energy to burn or simply in need of rest and relaxation, Big Bear offers something for everyone.

Big Bear Valley is home to over 17,000 full time residents and the population can jump to 50,000 over a typical holiday weekend.  In the wintertime it’s all about our alpine resorts.  Ever since the first ski lift was erected in the late 1940’s Big Bear has been a mecca for winter sports.  Snow Summit and Bear Mountain offer some of the best ski and snowboarding terrain in California and the resorts are the focal point of winter activities.

Spring is probably the locals’ favorite season, if only for the fact that we can now wash our cars and shed some clothes.  It’s also when everybody up here dusts off their fishing and camping gear and gets ready for some warm weather fun.  If nature and the outdoors are your passion you will be in heaven, or at least one mile closer to it.  The Big Bear backcountry has hundreds of miles of hiking and mountain biking trails to explore and some of the most beautiful campsites you’ll ever see.  Our local waters are home to some of the best trout fishing in Southern California and Big Bear hosts several tournaments throughout the year.

Summer in Big Bear is all about outdoor activities. Water-skiers and wake boarders are usually the first ones out on Big Bear Lake to catch the morning glass.  By the afternoon the lake is humming with pleasure boaters and jet-skiers.  Our Fourth of July fireworks display is one of the “must see” Big Bear events, bringing families back to the valley year after year.  There are so many different things to see and do throughout the summer that before you know it the days are getting shorter and the cycle starts all over again.
