Summer Cycling Events in Big Bear Lake

After the Big Bear Climb, the fantastic Amgen race in the Spring, the end of July and beginning of August are prime times for bicycling in Big Bear.

Well organized and waiting for you, tune into https://www.bigbearcycling.com. The Big Bear Cycling Association is a non-profit organization devoted to all things cycling in the San Bernardino Mountains. As well as workshops and loads of events, they schedule weekly group rides for all levels and ages. In an hour and a half, you’ll have the ride of your life!

Saturdays are for street riding with 3 levels of challenge. Beginners ride the neighborhoods. Intermediates circle the lake. Advanced riders get the workout! Running Springs and back is the challenge.

On Sundays, riders take to the trails and dirt around the Big Bear area. The pace and terrain are set for all riders. Beginners are especially welcome. You will learn from, and ride with, experienced mountain bikers who are true enthusiasts.

August 4th is the next major cycling date in Big Bear. The 2012 Tour de Big Bear goes into gear at 7:00am, Saturday morning. Registration and check-in must be completed by Friday the 3rd. Visit https://www.tourdebigbear.com for more information and registration. There are some great perks, including lodging discounts and a spaghetti dinner at Nottinghams Tavern on Friday.

The “King of the Mountain” Tour de Big Bear is broken into 4 “levels”: 25, 50, 70 and 100 miles.

All starting and finishing in the Village; the 25 mile run circles in and around the Big Bear Valley.

The 50 mile run heads down to Snow Valley and back; and extends around Baldwin Lake in the East, before returning to the Village.

The 70 mile run goes to Snow Valley, around Baldwin Lake and then up to Onyx Summit and back to the Village.

The 100 mile ride follows the same path, but continues down to the Jenks Lake area after Onyx Summit, and back! This one has a 7,425ft elevation gain. Prepare to test yourself!

Don’t forget, the air is thinner up here! Plan your day for lots of fun, and a good workout. Prepare for dry thin air and awesome scenery. There are many way stations planned and facilities will be well stocked and manned. Registrants can also receive discounted tickets for the “Blues for the Zoo” concert on Saturday night. This is always an awesome show, not to be missed.

Make your reservations and registration now. We hope to see you on the roads and trails!
